Drawing for Icon Painting
About
This course focuses on drawing in the iconographic style. We will also touch on the role of icons in the architecture of Orthodox Churches, as well as how architecture is represented in the icons themselves.
Participants will learn to depict male and female faces, hands, feet, and full anatomy, all of which are essential in creating icons. Additionally, we will explore garment drawing and examine the architectural features that are prevalent in icons.
Icons use reverse perspective to show the next world, rather than our own. These images often show cities, primarily Jerusalem, as well as scenes from inside the temple. Saints are often shown holding churches, which represent the place where an icon was discovered or the church founded by that saint.
