Japanese Embroidery: Introduction to Temari

Introducing the ancient craft of Temari, a traditional Japanese embroidery on a spherical shape. Originated around 700 AD, Temari balls emerged as a creative way to put to use leftover materials: rice husks and silk threads from kimono making.

In this course, we will learn how to make Temari from scratch, from shaping the round base to the pattern stitching, starting with simple geometrical patterns and then moving into more complex ones. Students will understand the basic principles of Temari, the stitching methods and guidelines that give way to a vast array of geometrical designs.
